Book Festival Staff in Cologne

Few German cities concentrate as much crowd work into one week as Cologne does during Carnival in February or March. After that the season continues with c/o pop in spring, Kölner Lichter on the Rhine in July, and a Tanzbrunnen programme that runs through the summer. Bar service, gates and clean-up all scale up at the same time.

Cologne's pool holds more than 3,900 registered students. For Carnival week we plan overlapping shifts with replacement cover, since demand across the Old Town breweries and the arena peaks on the same days. Everyone is local, briefed in advance, and paid at or above the 2026 minimum wage.

Where our staff work in Cologne: access control and ticket scanning at the LANXESS Arena, entrance and info points at Koelnmesse, bar and beverage service at the Tanzbrunnen and in the Old Town breweries, plus set-up, dismantling and clean-up teams along the Rhine bank after Kölner Lichter.

What the Cologne pool means in practice: Carnival and the July fireworks night both end late, and public transport gets our crews home without shuttle arrangements. Backstage and artist catering support is available for the concert calendar, and English-speaking staff work the events that draw visitors from across the border.
