Do you need a forklift license?

Do you need cooking skills as a kitchen helper?

No, you don't need cooking skills as a kitchen helper. Your tasks include prep work (chopping, washing), dishwashing, plating, and keeping the kitchen clean.

Do you need hotel experience?

No, prior hotel experience isn't a must. What matters is a friendly demeanor, solid German skills, and ideally some English. You'll get an onboarding on site.

Can I work more than 20 hours during semester break?

Yes. During the lecture-free period you can work up to 40 h/week without losing Werkstudent status , but in total no more than 26 weeks per year above 20 h.

Can I have several short-term jobs in one year?

Yes, but all together must not exceed the 70-working-day limit per calendar year. That's why employers ask you about prior assignments.

Which contract type fits semester-break jobs?

Two options work well: (1) Werkstudent , during the break you can work up to 40 h/week as long as you're still enrolled. (2) Kurzfristige Beschäftigung , up to 70 days/year without social contributions. We'll suggest whichever brings you the most.

Which languages do you have to speak?

Solid German is required. English is in high demand at international trade fairs and events and can land you better assignments. Extra languages like French or Spanish are a bonus.

As a barista you work in cafés, hotels, at trade fairs, corporate events, or even in airport lounges. Locations vary depending on availability and city.

Which industries can you work in as a cashier?

Typical settings are supermarkets, drugstores, department stores, hospitality, and cinemas. Assignments vary by city and season.

Are there night shifts in the warehouse?

Yes, many logistics centers offer night shifts. They're paid with a night bonus of €17.20/hr. Night shifts are especially popular with students who have morning classes.

Do you need sales experience?

No, sales experience isn't a must. What matters is being open, communicative, and having a likable presence. Many of our top promoters came in as career changers.

Do you need a health certificate?
+

Yes, working in a kitchen requires a briefing under the Infektionsschutzgesetz (IfSG). You can get it at the local health office for around €25. ucm gives you all the details in time.

What IT skills do you need?

Basic computer skills are enough. Most hotels use systems like Opera or Protel , you'll get a quick onboarding. For office reception, basic MS Office skills will do.

Do I have to file a tax return?
+

No, the employer pays a flat tax. Your Minijob income doesn't show up in your personal tax return.

What happens if you de-register or finish your studies?
+

Werkstudent status ends immediately on de-registration or graduation. From that point the job becomes subject to social insurance like regular employment.

What does "not occupational" mean?

Being employed short-term means: the job isn't your primary source of livelihood. As a student, pupil, on parental leave, or alongside a main job, this usually fits.
